YouTube transcript
Paste a link. We fetch the captions YouTube already has (instant, and free for everyone), then you can search, edit and download them. Only if a video has no captions do you need to transcribe the file yourself, on your own device.
Runs on your device. The speech model (OpenAI Whisper) downloads once, then works offline.
Transcript only. Add the video file to preview captions and export clips. It stays on your device.

Questions
Why does it use YouTube's captions first?
Most videos already have captions, made by the creator or generated automatically by YouTube. Fetching them takes a second; transcribing the audio takes minutes. We only fall back to transcription when there are none.
Do I need the extension?
No. Paste a link and press Get transcript. The free extension is optional: it asks YouTube from your own browser, so transcripts load a little faster and never depend on our server.
Are automatic captions accurate?
They are usually good for clear speech and weaker on names, jargon and music. Every line is editable here before you download.
Can I download the video?
No. This tool works with captions and with files you already have. Use YouTube Studio to download videos you own.
